Balanced Effort Leads Men's Soccer Past Wilkes, 4-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Behind four different goal scorers, the Ursinus Men's Soccer team earned a decisive 4-1 win over Wilkes on Tuesday night in non-conference action at Patterson Field.
 
 
With the win the Bears improved to 6-1-1 overall while the Colonels of the Landmark Conference fell to 3-6-1 overall.
 
 
Ursinus did not record a shot until the 13th minute of the first half but they made the most of their first one when senior Alexander Woll headed in a corner kick opportunity to put the Bears up 1-0. The goal helped the Bears turn up the pressure as they put three more shots on the Colonels end in the next few minutes. Sophomore Declan Curran knocked in a rebound shot in the net off an initial shot off the post by junior Julian Faust in the 22nd minute.
 
 
After a couple of chances to start the second half, junior Colin Deal scored on a turnaround shot in the 60th minute to put the Bears up 3-0. Sophomore Simon Muther capped the Ursinus scoring in the 70th minute when he put a shot towards net that bounced off a Colonels defender for a goal that made it 4-0. Ursinus had a couple of decent looks saved while Wilkes tallied their lone goal of the game in the 83rd minute.
 
 
The Bears held a 21-11 total shot advantage for the game and a 12-5 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus also held a slight 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Josiah Moore earned the win for the Bears after making four saves in 81:51 of action. Matthew Conti suffered the loss for Wilkes after making five saves in 70:50 of action while Owen Heale tallied three saves in the final 19:10.
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, September 28th as they will travel to face Johns Hopkins at 3:00 p.m.
