Gymnastics Competes at Utica Quad Meet

UTICA, N.Y. – The Ursinus Gymnastics team returned to action against three NCGA East Opponents on Sunday afternoon at the Utica Quad Meet.
 
 
Returning to action after having its dual meet with Ithaca canceled one week ago, the Bears finished fourth with a team score of 185.125 behind totals of 46.200 on the vault, 43.825 on the bars, 46.925 on the beam, and 48.175 on the floor. Cortland won the meet with a team score of 189.025 followed by the host Pioneers in second on a score of 188.275, and Ithaca in third with a 186.025.
 
 
The Bears opened the meet on the floor and had another tremendous showing led by senior Megan Matteucci, who scored her third straight 9.8 in the event and tied for the overall lead. Sophomore Lucy Warburton impressed with a career best score of 9.7 and finished sixth overall while senior Isabella Scarpetti recorded a 9.6 to tie for ninth. Junior Sidney Schreiber posted a 9.575 and sophomore Erin Roe was right behind at a 9.5. Sophomore Arianna Ellis rounded out the Ursinus scores with a 9.3.
 
 
Roe spearheaded the Bears on the vault once again as she finished second overall with a score of 9.675 and has posted the individual high score for the Bears in the event in each of the first three meets. Senior Erin Stubbs was second among Ursinus gymnasts with a score of 9.325 and classmate Madison Zimmerman was next for the Bears at a 9.250. First-year Alzachria Jackson posted a score of 9.050 in her collegiate debut.
 
 
On the bars, Roe was the top scorer for the Bears and tied for second overall with a career best score of 9.625. Matteucci earned a 9.350 to place second among the Ursinus gymnasts and sophomore Lauren Coleman was next with a 9.125.
 
 
Ursinus wrapped up its day on the beam and Warburton finished second overall with a career best score of 9.725. Roe finished third overall after matching her career best score of 9.7 and locked up first place in the All-Around following an impressive total of 38.500 that was just .175 off the Ursinus school record. Ellis also recorded a new career best on the beam with a score of 9.350 that had her tie for ninth overall. Schreiber and Zimmerman rounded out the Ursinus beam scores with tallies of 9.100 and 9.050, respectively.
 
The Bears return to action on Sunday, February 2nd as they will compete in the Springfield Quad Meet with Ithaca and Rhode Island at 1:00 p.m.
