Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Earns Shutout Victory over Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Senior Remi Lloyd scored the game's lone goal lifting the Ursinus field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon at Shillingford Field.

With the win, Ursinus improved to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in Centennial Conference play, while the Owls dropped to 6-9 on the season and 1-6 in conference action. It marked Lloyd's second straight game with a goal and the Bears' second consecutive win over Bryn Mawr.

Bryn Mawr recorded the game's first scoring chance via a penalty corner within the opening minute, but the Bears' defense denied the opportunity. Senior goalie Adriana Palladinetti tallied her first save of the game at the 8:01 mark, as a loose ball deflected off her foot to keep the game scoreless. Ursinus began to gain momentum shortly after, recording three penalty corners and a shot on goal. Junior Marie Brainard took the Bears' first shot off a penalty corner, but it was turned away by the Owls' netminder.

Ursinus maintained possession early in the second quarter before breaking through with a goal from Lloyd with 8:45 remaining in the first half. On a counterattack started by Lloyd, junior Kirsten Johnson sent a bouncing shot on cage that deflected off the Bryn Mawr goalie. Lloyd corralled the rebound and fired a shot into the open cage to give Ursinus a 1-0 lead. Junior Ava Mikulski recorded the final shot on goal for the Bears before entering halftime with the Bears' leading by one.

Less than two minutes into the second half, senior Gigi Testa collected a scoring chance for the Bears. She gathered a loose ball inside the circle and sent a backhanded shot on cage, but it was blocked by the Owls' goalkeeper. The remainder of the period became a midfield battle, with neither team able to create scoring chances in the offensive zones. Ursinus increased the pressure early in the final quarter, tallying three straight shots on goal that were turned away by the Bryn Mawr defense. With 10:29 remaining in the contest, Palladinetti and the Bears' defense denied a penalty corner shot to preserve the lead. Palladinetti made a diving save before a defender cleared the ball out of harm's way. Ursinus maintained control for the rest of the game, recording four corners and four shots on goal en route to the 1-0 shutout.

The Bears held a 15-3 advantage in shots, a 12-3 edge in shots on goal, and a 13-4 lead in penalty corners. Palladinetti earned the win with three saves, recording her third shutout of the season. Bryn Mawr's Charlene Basque took the loss, finishing with 11 saves in 57 minutes of action.

Ursinus returns to action Wednesday, October 22nd, when they travel to Franklin & Marshall for a Centennial Conference matchup at 7 p.m.
