Krystkiewicz's Goal Lifts Women's Soccer over Mount Saint Vincent

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. –  The Ursinus women's soccer team scored two unanswered goals to earn a 2-1 comeback victory over the University of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.

With the victory, Ursinus improves to 8-5-3 on the season while the Dolphins dropped to 10-3-2 overall. Sophomore Taylor Pezulich and junior Gwyn Krystkiewics paced the Bears' offense by scoring a goal apiece, while sophomore goalie Mallory Toomey finished with a game-high nine saves.

The Dolphins recorded the opening scoring chance as a shot at the 4:13-mark, deflected off the left woodwork. Ursinus responded with three straight shots, including one on goal by junior Adriana Careless. Mount Saint Vincent tallied the game's opening score at the 25:40-mark as Eva Puentes found the back of net off a Bears' turnover in their defensive end. Ursinus quickly responded as 11 seconds later, sophomore Kaleigh Evans found Pezulich for the equalizer to tie the game at one apiece. On the play, Evans won a second ball and swung a pass out towards Pezulich just inside the box on the far side of the field. Pezulich took one touch and sent a laser shot towards the far post to tie the game at one. Both defenses settled in and held the opposing offenses off balance throughout the remainder of the first half and entered halftime tied.

Mount Saint Vincent responded in the opening minutes of the second half, recording six consecutive shots but the Bears' defense and Tommey stood tall denying each chance to keep the score knotted. In the 80th minute, Evans fired a shot for the Bears and a handball was called on a Dolphins defender within the box resulting in a penalty kick. Krystkiewicz stepped up for the Bears and fired a shot towards the right post for her third goal of the season. The Bears defense stepped up and denied three chances over the final 10 minutes en route to the 2-1 non-conference victory.

Mount Saint Vincent held a 24-9 lead in shots, a 10-5 edge in shots on goal, and a 6-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

The Bears return to action on Wednesday, October 29th as they host Franklin & Marshall at 7:30 p.m., before wrapping up the regular season against No. 21 Johns Hopkins on Saturday for senior day.
