Men's Soccer Battles Johns Hopkins on Senior Day

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus men's soccer team battled hard in a low-scoring affair, but eventually fell 1-0 against Johns Hopkins on Senior Day at Patterson Field.

With the loss, Ursinus finishes the season 4-11-2 overall, and 1-8 in Centennial Conference play. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays improve to 6-6-6 overall, and 4-2-3 in conference play and will enter the Centennial Conference playoffs as the No. 2 seed. The Bears celebrated seven seniors prior to the match as AJ Torres, Reed Grant, Colin Deal, Jack Schmidt, Enver Desic, Marko Balic, and Julian Faust were recognized for their dedication and commitment to the men's soccer program over the last four years.

The Blue Jays were in control early, generating a 6-3 shot advantage within the first 30 minutes, but the Bears' strong defense prevented them from scoring. In the 25th minute, junior Matthew McFadden and Declan Curran each recorded shots on goal for the Bears, but the Blue Jays defense denied both opportunities. The Bears defense held strong until the nine minutes remaining in the first half, as Johns Hopkins midfielder Alex Gardner navigated past the Bears' defense and sailed a shot into the left corner of the goal, putting the Blue Jays up 1-0.

Hopkins held control throughout the second half, despite the Bear's best efforts offensively. McFadden, Schmidt, and first-year Jacob Santamaria each tallied scoring chances in the second half, but were unable to convert eventually falling, 1-0.

The Blue Jays held a 16-11 shot advantage, with both teams tied 7-7 in shots on goal. Johns Hopkins led 12-1 in corner kick opportunities. Junior Josiah Moore took the loss in goal, with six saves, while Ghanem earned the victory behind five saves.
