Field Hockey Blanks McDaniel, 2-0

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomore Katie Studzinski tallied a pair of goals leading the Ursinus field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Ursinus closes out the regular season with a 10-8 record and a 6-5 mark in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Green Terror wrap up their season 5-14 overall and 1-10 in conference play. For Studzinski, it marks her first collegiate multi-goal performance and her second straight contest with a tally.

McDaniel recorded the first three shots of the contests within the opening two minutes, but were turned away by the Bears defense. Ursinus responded with a trio of shots over the next three minutes of play, tallying a pair of penalty corners. During the scoring opportunities, junior Marie Brainard and senior Rachel Buono each had chances blocked by the McDaniel defense. Ursinus broke through at the 10:44-mark when Studzinski scored her first goal of the game to give the Bears an early lead. On the play, Brainard dribbled into the circle and towards the left post before passing across the cage to find Studzinski for the go-ahead goal.

Ursinus carried the momentum into the second stanza as Studzinski connected on her second opportunity to put the Bears ahead by two at the 19:50-mark. During a fast break, junior Ava Mikulski fired a shot towards the left post leading the McDaniel goalie to dive towards the shot. Studzinski was positioned in front of the cage and deflected Mikulski's shot, and it was redirected towards the opposite post for the score. In the closing moments of the first, Ursinus tallied four consecutive penalty corners but were unable to add to their lead and held a 2-0 halftime advantage. The Bears carried the momentum into the second half, out shooting McDaniel en route to the shutout victory.

Ursinus held an 18-12 lead in shots, a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 14-11 lead in penalty corners. Senior netminder Adriana Palladinetti earned the victory in the cage behind two saves and her fourth shutout of the season.

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday, November 4th as they travel to Dickinson College for the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs.
