COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus football team used a 21-point 4
th quarter to pull away for a 40-13 win over Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field in Centennial Conference play.
Junior quarterback
Tristan Machado went 14-of-22 for 195 yards on a windy day in Collegeville and tossed three touchdown passes to no interceptions. Junior wide receiver
Ryder Zulkowski caught five passes for 99 yards and two touchdown passes for the first time in his career. Junior
Aidan Roselle caught Machado's other touchdown pass and three receptions for 45 yards.
The Bears churned out 182 rushing yards as a team behind senior
Jaden Louis rushing for 94 yards on 18 carries with one touchdown. Junior
Jason Bernard added 81 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns.
After a Bears punt, the Bullets used their ground game to drive down inside the Bears 10-yard line. However, sophomore defensive back
Nick Strusowski intercepted Bullets quarterback Sean Clark at the 5-yard line to end the threat. The Bears did not gain a single first down backed up inside their own 10-yard line and a partially blocked punt gave Gettysburg great field position at the Bears 25-yard line. Ursinus pushed the Bullets back and Gettysburg settled for a 47-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead at the 5:17-mark of the first quarter.
Ursinus opened the second quarter with a score as Machado found a wide-open
Ryder Zulkowski for a 23-yard touchdown to put the Bears up 6-3 at the 11:52-mark following a missed extra point. Gettysburg once again moved down the field and made it to the Ursinus 1-yard line on a third-and-goal situation. Senior defensive end
Aaron Rios leveled the Bullets ball carrier in the backfield for a two-yard loss and an incompletion on fourth-and-goal kept the Bears in front. Ursinus took advantage of the stop and drove 97 yards in just eight plays to go up 13-3 after Bernard punched it in from two yards out with 1:01 left in the first half.
Gettysburg used seven straight runs on their first drive of the second half and cut the deficit down to 13-10 with a touchdown at the 11:47-mark of the third quarter. Ursinus began finding its groove on offense and responded with a 13-play 70-yard drive that ended with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Machado to Roselle to make it a 19-10 with 4:32 left in the third quarter.
The Bullets kicked another field goal late in the third quarter to make it 19-13 before the Bears went on a 14-play 77-yard drive in 6:51 to go up 27-13 when Machado hit Zulkowski for a 20-yard touchdown pass on third-and-goal. Senior defensive back
D.J. Clarke intercepted the Bullets on a fourth-and-7 attempt from their own 28-yard line and the Bears extended their lead to 34-13 when Bernard rushed for a 30-yard touchdown with 6:57 left in regulation. Ursinus stuffed a Bullets fake punt attempt on the ensuing drive and Louis scored from a yard out to complete the final of 40-13.
Sophomore defensive back
Jake Ziegler led the Bears with 10 tackles (seven solo) and junior linebacker
Matt Agar made seven tackles (one solo) and one interception. Rios made six tackles (four solo) and 3.0 TFL with one sack while Clarke had two interceptions with six tackles (three solo). Senior Jonathan Small made a career-high six tackles (three solo) with 2.5 TFL and one sack.

th as they will travel to face Dickinson at 1:00 p.m.
