CHESTER, Pa. – The Ursinus men's swimming team totaled six event victories en route to a 117-86 victory over Widener University on Saturday afternoon.
Ursinus opened the meet by earning the fastest time I the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of sophomores
Josh Travers, Quintin Grosvenor, seniors
Francesco D'Avella, and
David McCauley combined for a time of 1:40.15.
In the next race, the 1000-yard freestyle, first-year
Alexander Nicolai tallied a second-place nod with a time of 10:16.33, while classmate
Elian Murillo Rios took fourth by touching the wall at 11:52.73. McCauley earned one of his two event victories in the 200-yard freestyle as his time of 1:50.20 was five seconds faster then the next swimmer. He later added a first-place time in the 100-yard freestyle by clocking a time of 49.54, while first-year
Jack Campbell took second with a time of 50.66.
Ursinus collected three of the top four times in the 50-yard freestyle as junior
Jack Giuliana (1st, 22.43), Campbell (3rd, 23.33), and sophomore
Evan Wagner (4th, 23.75) combined for 14 team points for the Bears. Next, juniors Daniil Salimov (4:43.81) and
Adam Denn (4:50.99) placed second and third in the 400-yard IM, respectively.
The Bears carried the momentum into the 100-yard butterfly as Giuliana (53.25) and Grosvenor (55.78) added the top-two times in the event. Travers (1st, 55.62) added the top-time in the 100-yard backstroke, while D'Avella (1st, 1:01.12) placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke to close out the meet victory for the Bears.
Ursinus will return to action on Saturday, November 8th as they host McDaniel College and Juniata College for a tri-meet at the William Elliott Pool starting at 1 p.m.
