Men's Swimming Falls at Home to Kutztown

The Ursinus men's swimming team totaled six event victories but fell to Division II Kutztown University, 141-121, on Saturday afternoon at home.
 
 
The loss snaps the Bears' three-meet winning streak as they move to 3-4 on the season, while the Golden Bears improved to 2-4. Ursinus got off to a quick start as the quartet of sophomore Josh Travers, senior Francesco D'Avella, junior Jack Giuliana, and first-year Jack Campbell won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:37.94.
 
 
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, first-year Alexander Nicolai (10:27.79) paced the Bears with a second-place finish, while junior Daniil Salimov (11:12.75) took fourth. Senior David McCauley then won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.95, and Travers (55.12) followed with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke. Travers later added another win in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 2:04.43.
 
 
Ursinus posted a pair of top-four times in the 100-yard breaststroke as D'Avella (59.68) placed second and first-year Elian Murillo Rios (1:06.39) finished fourth.
 
 
Nicolai earned another runner-up finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.22, while classmate Quinn Grosvenor (2:13.80) took fourth. Campbell (22.76) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle, while Giuliana (48.53) and McCauley (50.66) recorded top-three finishes in the 100-yard freestyle. Giuliana went on to win the 100-yard butterfly in 53.15, with Grosvenor taking second in 55.91.
 
 
Ursinus closed out the meet with the top time in the 400-yard freestyle relay as McCauley, Campbell, Nicolai, and Giuliana combined for a 3:18.32. The Bears trailed by nearly three seconds before Nicolai and Giuliana anchored the comeback, winning by one second.
 
 
The Bears return to action on Friday, Nov. 21, when they travel to Misericordia University for the Cougar Splash Tournament.
