Women's Basketball Powers Past Lancaster Bible, 67-38

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Basketball team rolled past Lancaster Bible 67-38 on Saturday afternoon to complete a 2-0 weekend at the Franklin & Marshall Terry Greene Tip-Off Tournament.
 

With the win, the Bears improved to 5-2 overall behind their third straight win and the Chargers fell to 0-7 overall.
 

Senior Madison Smith led the Bears with 15 points off 7-of-11 shooting and grabbed five rebounds with two assists. Smith earned All-Tournament team honors after a pair of double-digit scoring performances in the two Ursinus wins. Junior Colleen Blackman added 10 points and four rebounds while senior Ava Possenti did a little of everything with a career-high nine assists along with seven points, six rebounds, and five steals.
 
 
The first quarter was competitive as the Bears shrugged off a quick start by the Chargers to go up 8-5 after initially trailing 5-2 at the 7:39-mark. Ursinus stormed ahead by scoring the final eight points of the first quarter to take a 16-10 lead after trailing 10-8 at the 2:03-mark. The Bears hit the ground running in the second quarter by using a 10-3 run to go up 26-13 with 5:24 left in the first half. Ursinus held Lancaster Bible without a field goal for a near six-minute span and took a 35-22 lead into halftime after the Chargers made it a nine-point game at the 3:37-mark.
 
 
After the Chargers got the deficit back to nine at 35-26 with 8:21 left in the third quarter, Ursinus ultimately put the game away with a 19-2 run over a span of 7:11 to go up 54-28 and held the Chargers without a point for two separate periods of four minutes. Ursinus extended its lead out by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter and did not allow its lead to fall under 20 points the rest of the way.
 
 
The Bears shot 45.3 percent (29-of-64) from the field and 25 percent (2-of-8) from three-point range. Ursinus went 7-of-10 (70%) from the free throw line and held a commanding 45-29 rebounding advantage. Ursinus forced 20 Chargers turnovers that led to 20 points. Meanwhile, the Chargers shot just 29.8% (14-of-47) from the field and 2-of-10 (20%) from three-point range. Lancaster Bible went 50 percent (8-of-16) from the free throw line in the loss.
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, December 3rd as they will open Centennial Conference play at Haverford for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
