Men's Basketball Wraps up Bear Bash Tip-Off Tournament

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Basketball team wrapped up play in the Bear Bash Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Helfferich Hall against Marietta.
 
 
Senior Mo Toure led the Bears with a team-high 23 points and three rebounds while sophomore Jamie Murphy posted a double-double behind 22 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Luke Nieman scored 14 points and senior Nick Nocito tallied 13 points and eight assists.
 
 
The teams went back-and-forth to start as the Bears went up 8-5 and the Pioneers went on a 14-5 run to go up 19-13 at the 14:36-mark of the first half. Ursinus took the lead back with an 8-2 burst at 21-20 and Marietta went back up 29-25 at the 10:27-mark. Ursinus took the lead back multiple times and went up 39-36 at the 4:51-mark of the first quarter and extended their lead to six points at 48-42 with 1:36 left in the first half. Ursinus went up as many as seven points at 51-44 with 53 seconds left and held a 51-47 lead at the half.
 
 
Marietta opened the second half on an 11-7 run to go up 58-57 at the 16:49-mark of the second half and went up seven points at 75-65 with 8:30 left in regulation. The Pioneers led 84-77 with 2:09 left in regulation before the Bears ran off seven straight points to tie the game at 84 with 45 seconds left in the second half. Marietta took the lead back on their next possession and Murphy tied the game at 86 with two seconds left with layup to force overtime. In overtime, the teams traded points to start before the Pioneers went up 93-88 at the 3:06-mark. Ursinus clawed back and pulled within one point at 98-97 with 25 seconds left before a missed free throw prevented the Bears from tying the game.
 
 
The Bears shot 48.6 percent from the field (35-of-72), 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from three-point range, and just 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the free throw line.
 
 
 
The Bears host Carnegie Mellon for senior day on Saturday, November 8th at 12:00 p.m.
