ST. DAVID's, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Lacrosse team was defeated 10-7 by Eastern on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Eastern opened the game by scoring the first two goals of the game and took an early 2-0 lead at the 9:55-mark of the first quarter. The Bears struck late with a pair of goals in the final two minutes and tied the game up at two headed into the second quarter. Sophomore
Nick Pomajevich scored the first goal for Ursinus, and senior
Christopher Pucciarelli added the second after assisting on Pomajevich's goal. Junior
Barrett Denlinger continued the run into the third quarter and gave Ursinus their first lead of the game at 3-2 with 12:22 left in the second quarter. However, the Eagles closed the half out with five unanswered goals to go up 7-3 at the half.
Ursinus snapped a 15-minute scoreless drought in the third quarter when junior
Harry Sweitzer cashed in on a man-up opportunity. The goal started a charge by the Bears that saw them make it 7-6 at the 5:39-mark when they scored goals within nine seconds of each other. Sophomore
Jared Laskin scored the Bears fifth goal before junior
Matt Callahan followed following a faceoff win from first-year
Cole Mogensen. Laskin added a second tally to counter an Eastern goal early in the fourth quarter to make it 8-7 with 11:06 remaining, but the Bears were shutout the rest of the way.
Eastern held a 40-38 shot advantage while the Bears held a 21-19 advantage in shots on goal. The Eagles held a 37-34 edge in ground balls and a 12-9 advantage in faceoff wins. Pucciarelli led the Bears with four points behind three assists and one goal while Laskin was the lone Bear to have multi goals with two. First-year goalkeeper
Colin Daroch made nine saves in the full 60 minutes.
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, March 1st as they will host DeSales at 3:00 p.m.
