WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Ursinus Gymnastics team went toe-to-toe with West Chester in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon that ended with a new high team score for the second straight week.
The Bears totaled a score of 189.000 behind scores of 47.525 on the vault, a season best of 46.925 on the bars, 46.975 on the beam, and 47.575 on the floor. West Chester was just ahead of Ursinus with a team score of 190.775 on totals of 47.325 on the vault, 46.700 on the bars, 48.000 on the beam, and 48.750 on the floor.
Ursinus put together its best bars performance of the season to date to lead off the meet and junior
Kylie Ruggiero returned to action for the first time in three weeks in style to post a season high 9.675 that placed her second overall between the two teams. Sophomore
Erin Roe was next for Ursinus with a career high score of 9.650 while classmate
Lauren Coleman also completed a new career best score with a 9.475 that rounded out the top five. Senior
Megan Matteucci added a score of 9.075, first-year
Alzachria Jackson posted a 9.050 in her collegiate bars debut, and sophomore
Lucy Warburton finished with a 9.0.
Roe won the vault for the Bears once again with her score of 9.7 and first-year
Michaela Duffy impressed with a new career best score of 9.625 to finish second overall. Junior
Sidney Schreiber tied for sixth overall on her total of 9.425 and senior
Erin Stubbs followed with a 9.4 to tie for eighth. Jackson posted a 9.375 and senior
Madison Zimmerman rounded out the Bears on the vault with a 9.275.
The strong showing on the vault gave Ursinus a slight lead over the Golden Rams headed into the third rotation. Ursinus went to the floor next, and Schreiber paced the Bears with a new season best score of 9.725 and finished fourth overall. Roe matched her career best of 9.550 to place second among the Bears and seventh overall and sophomore
Arianna Ellis was right behind in eighth with a 9.5. Warburton added a 9.450 on the floor, senior
Isabella Scarpetti registered a 9.350, and Matteucci concluded the Bears totals with a 9.1.
Ursinus wrapped things up on the beam as Zimmerman dazzled with a new career high of 9.825 to win the event. Roe was next for the Bears in fourth overall with a 9.650 and capped her new career high of 38.575 in the all-around that sat just .100 off the Ursinus school record set by Kaelin Ruoss in 2015. Warburton was third among Ursinus gymnasts with a 9.425 in seventh overall while Stubbs and Ellis added scores of 9.050 and 9.0, respectively.
The Bears return to action next Sunday, February 16th as they head down to the Nation's Capital to compete in the George Washington Quad Meet with UW-La Crosse and Cornell at 1:00 p.m.
