COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Highlighted by a comeback in game two, the Ursinus College baseball earned a doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley University on Saturday in their 2025 home opener.
Ursinus dominated game one by securing an 11-1 victory, before a late rally in game two sparked a 10-6 decision over the Aggies. Sophomore
Brandon Sullivan and senior
Peter Balos led the way offensively by each totaling five hits, combining for seven runs, and six RBIs. Sullivan went 3-of-4 in game one with four runs scored, while Balos went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to give Ursinus the victory.
With the victories, Ursinus has won four straight and improved to 4-2 overall while the Aggies fall to 1-4 on the season.
Ursinus 11, Delaware Valley 1
Junior right-hander
Dan Bass got the start in game one and turned in a stellar performance pitching six innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, and struck out six batters. He cruised through his first inning of work by retiring the Aggies in order with two ground outs and a strikeout.
The Bears' offense responded in the bottom half of the first inning as Sullivan led off with a single and advanced into scoring position as senior
Jakob Cantor was hit by a pitch. Next, Balos came through with a single into right field for the opening run. Unfortunately, Ursinus stranded the bases loaded as a flyout ended the frame. Delaware Valley advanced a runner to third base with two outs in the second inning, but Bass escaped the jam by collecting a flyout.
Ursinus broke the contest open in the third inning as they totaled four runs off three hits, two walks, and an Aggie defensive error. Sullivan reached on an error to open the frame and advanced to second on a single by Cantor. After a strikeout and a walk, seniors
Jude Gilhool and
Andrew Richter came through with consecutive doubles to give Ursinus a 5-0 lead. Bass allowed the lead off man to reach base in the fourth, but a 5-4-3 double play, and a strikeout brought the Bears back to the plate.

Jordan Williams used a sacrifice fly to score Sullivan from third base. Delaware Valley added their first run in the sixth inning as the first two runners reached base with no outs. Bass and the Bears' defense allowed a run to score as they turned a 5-4-3 double play, while a strikeout ended his day on the mound with Ursinus leading 6-1. Sullivan and Balos came through with RBI singles in the seventh inning, while Ursinus added a pair of runs in the eighth en route to the 11-1 victory. Junior lefty
Brett Mutz closed out the final two innings on the mound by allowing just one hit and striking out a batter in his second appearance of the season.
Ursinus 10, Delaware Valley 6

Kieran Hollander started game two on the mound and recorded two quick outs, before a string of singles allowed the Aggies to take a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Delaware Valley increased their lead to 2-0 as a two-out double allowed an unearned run to score in the second inning. The Bears cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the second inning as junior
George Nestor used a sacrifice bunt to push the Bears' first run across the board. Williams led off by reaching on a free pass and later advanced to third on a passed ball and a ground out, before Nestor came through with the sacrifice.
In the third inning, Ursinus scored three runs off two walks and two hits to regain a 4-2 advantage. Sullivan and Cantor led off with free passes, while Balos secured an RBI with a single into center field to tie the contest at two apiece. Next, Williams came through with an RBI single to score Cantor, and Gilhool stretched the Bears advantage to two with an RBI ground out. Hollander continued to pitch well on the mound as he retired the Aggies in order during the fourth inning behind two ground outs and a strikeout.
Delaware Valley tied the contest at four apiece in the fifth inning as three hits and a walk led to two runs for the Aggies. First-year pitcher
Chase Martin came on in relief with two outs and runners on the corners, but recorded a flyout to escape the jam. In the top of the sixth, Delaware Valley added a two-out run on a wild pitch to regain a 5-4 advantage before the Bears stranded a runner in scoring position by tallying a strikeout. Devin Fogg to tie the score at 5-5. Fogg led off the frame with a walk before sophomore
Barritt Ross used a sacrifice bunt to push Fogg into scoring position to setup Sullivan for the RBI single.
Delaware Valley added a run in the eighth inning as a two-out single gave the visitors a 6-5 lead. The Bears responded in the bottom half of the inning as they scored four runs to regain a 10-6 lead. Four walks and an error led to the Bears crooked frame as they entered the ninth inning leading by four. Senior
David Morgan entered the game on the mound for Ursinus and allowed a lead off walk, but settled in and recorded three straight outs to give Ursinus the victory. On the final play, an Aggie reached first on an error but a great relay from the Bears defense cut the runner down trying to advance to second base.
The Bears will return to action on Thursday, March 6th as they travel to Ewing, New Jersey for a non-conference matchup against TCNJ at 3 p.m.
