WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ursinus softball team dropped a pair of games to Catholic in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the National Youth Baseball Academy.
In game one, junior pitcher
Christa Andrusiewicz worked out of a two-out bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first with a groundout to keep the game scoreless. Senior
Stephanie Wichman doubled to right center with one out in the top of the second but advanced no further in the inning. Catholic got on the board with two runs with two outs in the bottom of the second inning with both coming around on a fielder's choice. The Cardinals delivered the decisive inning in the bottom of the fourth with three runs, all with two outs, to go up 5-0. Ursinus got its lone run in the top of the sixth when first-year

Anna Evanchik who reached on an error to start the inning.
In game two, senior
Samantha Mallen led the game off with a double down the left field line and came around to score off a single from junior
Kayla Carr two batters later to make it 1-0. Catholic responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 2-1 from a triple and sacrifice fly. Ursinus fought back with four runs in the top of the second off three hits while taking advantage of three Cardinals errors to go up 5-2. After the first two outs were recorded, Andrusiewicz reached on a fielding error and Mallen followed to reach base with the same result. Evanchik knocked in Andrusiewicz to tie the game at two with a single and Carr followed with a two-run single to make it 4-2. Robinson scored Carr with a single in the next at-bat to cap the inning. However, the Cardinals countered with four runs on three hits to go up 6-5 in the bottom of the second. Catholic added a run in the bottom of the third to go up 7-5 and Carr added another RBI in the top of the fourth that made it 7-6. The Cardinals scored eight runs on five hits and two errors in the bottom of the fourth to go up 15-6 and retired the Bears in order the following inning to end the game.
Carr went a perfect 3-for-3 in game two with four RBI's while Mallen went 2-for-3 with three runs scored plus a stolen base. Robinson added a pair of hits in game two and a combined two RBI's from the doubleheader.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, March 8th as they will open their spring break trip in Kissimmee, Florida against Lebanon Valley at 9:00 a.m.
