ARLINGTON, Va. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team won its fifth straight match by defeating Marymount (VA) 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
With the win, the Bears improved to 6-3 overall and the Saints dropped to 1-3.
The Bears took two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point and got the early advantage. Junior
Fiona Finnerty and sophomore
Julia Nitz defeated Lily Plotkin and Francesca Loiseau at the No. 3 doubles spot 6-1 and sophomore
Morgan Coupe and first-year
Katie Yu secured the point with a 6-3 triumph over Avery DeFazio and Sofi Plotkin at No. 2 doubles. Senior
Allie Armour and junior
Bella Vassalluzzo suffered a tough 6-3 setback to Hana Kimmey and Nikhita Simhambhatla at the No. 1 spot.
Sophomore
Caroline Daly dropped a No. 2 singles match 1-6, 0-6 to Simhambhatla before Yu bested DeFazio 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. The Saints leveled the match at two after Armour fell to Kimmey 1-6, 3-6 at No. 1 singles before Ursinus won the last three points to secure the win. Junior
Kate Rubinkam swept past Sofi Plotkin 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot and Vassalluzzo won the clinching point at No. 5 singles over Lily Plotkin 6-1, 6-0. Finnerty defeated Ainur Bekenova 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot to finish off the day.
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, March 26th as they will host Wilkes at 4:00 p.m.
