MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Ursinus College baseball team earned its second sweep of the season on Saturday, defeating Bridgewater State University 10-8 and 12-0 at the Ripken Baseball Complex.
With the victories, Ursinus improves to 6-3 overall and have six more games remaining in their spring break trip. Bridgewater State opens their 2025 season with an 0-3 record. In a back-and-forth contest in game one, Ursinus used a two-run double in the eighth inning to secure the 10-8 victory. Meanwhile in game two, the Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead, before a grand slam from senior
Andrew Richter lifted the Bears to the sweep.
Ursinus 10, Bridgewater State 8

Brandon Sullivan paced the Bears lineup, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored. Junior pitcher
Dan Bass got the start in game one and faced trouble in the first inning but rolled a 6-4-3 double-play to strand a runner on base. Ursinus responded with the game's first run in the third inning as Richter used a sacrifice fly to score junior

Bridgewater State responded in their half of the inning as a two-run home run gave them a 2-1 advantage. The Bears put runners on the corners with two outs, but Bass settled in by recording a pop out to escape the jam. Bridgewater State added three runs in the fourth inning as a pair of doubles and a walk extended their lead to 5-1. Ursinus responded in the fifth inning by adding a pair of runs to cut their deficit to 5-3. Senior

Shane Beaver brought the Bears' second run across the plate.
In the sixth inning, Ursinus tied the contest at five a piece as the Bears recorded three hits and two free passes. Williams collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly with Sullivan earning an RBI single to score first-year

Marco Maiuolo recorded his first collegiate home run while pinch hitting to tie the score at six. Later in the frame, first-year
Devin Fogg scored on a wild pitch with sophomore
Barritt Ross scoring on a sacrifice bunt. After Bridgewater tied the score at eight in the seventh, Ross came through with a two-out two-run double to give Ursinus a 10-8 advantage. Senior
David Morgan closed out the contest on the mound by retiring the Bears in order to give Ursinus the victory. Morgan recorded his first victory of the season and totaled four strikeouts over the final two frames.

Kieran Hollander (2-0) received the start in game two and turned in a great performance pitching six shutout innings, scattering five hits and striking out six batters. Meanwhile, senior
Connor Bogansky pitched the final inning and retired the Bears in order to give Ursinus the victory. At the plate, Richter paced the Bears offense by finishing 2-for-3 with six RBI and two runs scored.
Ursinus took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on two errors and a double from senior
Jude Gilhool. In the third inning, Richter led off with a single and advanced into scoring position on an infield single from Beaver. After a sacrifice bunt, Richter came across to score on a wild pitch, giving Ursinus a 4-0 lead.
Ursinus exploded in the fourth inning, loading the bases behind a pair of singles and a free pass. With one out and the bases loaded, Richter blasted his sixth career home run and first career grand slam to extend the lead to 8-0. The Bears added another run in the frame, and two more runs in the sixth inning gave Ursinus a 12-0 victory.
The Bears return to action tomorrow as they take on Wittenberg University starting at 12:30pm from the Ripken Baseball Complex.
