KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Ursinus softball team continued their hot start to their Florida Spring Break trip by picking up two more wins on Sunday morning against Washington & Jefferson and DeSales at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex. The Bears held on to defeat the Presidents 6-4 before downing the Bulldogs 3-1.
With the wins, the Bears improved to 4-3 overall behind four straight wins down in the Sunshine State. Meanwhile, the Presidents fell to 1-1 and the Bulldogs to 0-2.
Ursinus 6, Washington & Jefferson 4
The Presidents struck for a pair of two out runs with runners on first and second base to gain the early 2-0 lead. Ursinus had just one hit in three innings before first-year
Anna Evanchik roped a double to left center to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Junior
Kayla Carr followed with a single one batter later to score Evanchik and make it a 2-1 game. The Bears pulled ahead for the first time in the game in the bottom of the fifth with two runs to go up 3-2. Junior
Keelie Hancock led the inning off with a double before advancing to third on a single. Hancock came around to tie the game on a groundout and Evanchik gave the Bears the lead with a triple two batters later. First-year
Reagan Robinson threw out a Presidents runner trying to steal third base following a leadoff double in the top of the sixth and Ursinus escaped the inning unscathed. Ursinus powered further ahead with three runs off two hits in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-2. Robinson started things with a single and came around to score off a double from senior
Stephanie Wichman. W&J rallied in the top of the seventh as they led the inning off with a single and came around to score on a stolen base attempt throw to second. A double one batter later made it 6-4 with one out and a runner on second base. First-year pitcher
Lily McGrath entered the game for starter junior
Riley Coneeny and the Presidents got another single and ended up with runners on second and third base. However, McGrath got a force out at home and then a groundout to first base to preserve the win.
Ursinus 3, DeSales 1
After three scoreless innings to start, the Bears broke through when Wichman doubled in Robinson after she singled in the previous at-bat to make it 1-0. Ursinus added to its lead in the top of the fifth when sophomore

Samantha Mallen went wide. DeSales had its best chance to rally in the bottom of the sixth when they got on the board with a one-out double to make it 2-1. However, first-year
Lucy Wolf got two fly outs to hold the lead into the seventh. The Bears got an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Mallen sped home off a shallow pop fly from Robinson that did not leave the infield to make it 3-1. Wolf worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh to complete her first collegiate complete game. Wolf allowed one earned run off just five hits and struck out six batters while walking two.
Robinson went a combined 4-of-6 with an RBI between the two games while Mallen added three combined hits and stole a base in each game. Evanchik also tallied a combined three hits and Wichman went 2-for-4 against DeSales with an RBI.
Ursinus has a day off before returning to action with a pair of games on Tuesday, March 11th starting with Westminster (PA) at 11:15 a.m. and Loras at 4:15 p.m.
