HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team dropped a heartbreaker to Haverford College, 13-12, on Tuesday afternoon at Kannerstein Field.
With the loss, Ursinus fell to 17-14 overall and 4-7 in Centennial Conference play. Meanwhile, the Fords improved to 16-12 on the season and 5-6 in conference action. Seniors

Jakob Cantor led the Bears with two hits apiece. Senior
Jordan Williams finished with a game-high four RBIs, while sophomore
Brandon Sullivan added two hits three runs scored.
The Bears capitalized on three hit-by-pitches in the first inning to score the game's opening run. Sullivan, Gilhool, and Cantor each took one for the team, with Cantor's free pass earning his 19th RBI of the season. The rally ended on a fielder's choice as Ursinus stranded the bases loaded. Haverford answered in the bottom half, taking advantage of a one-out error that led to an RBI triple for the Fords. Junior pitcher
Brett Mutz escaped a bases-loaded jam with a fielders' choice to keep the game tied at one.
After Haverford added a run in the second inning, Ursinus responded with three runs in the third to regain a 4-2 lead. Senior
Peter Balos and Gilhool each tallied hits, while a walk by Cantor loaded the bases with two outs. Williams delivered a bases-clearing double, scoring all three runners to put Ursinus ahead. Senior
Mike Scheller relieved Mutz on the mound and retired the Fords in order behind two fly outs and a lineout.
Ursinus extended its lead to 7-2 in the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits and a walk. Sullivan led off with his first triple of the season and scored on a sacrifice fly by Balos. Gilhool jumped on a first pitch fastball, launching his second career home run to left-center to give Ursinus a five-run cushion. The Bears added another run in the fifth when Sullivan scored on an RBI single by Richter. However, with a runner on first, Haverford turned a 6-4-3 double play to escape the inning and keep the deficit at six.
Haverford responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs on three hits and a defensive error to trim the lead to 8-5. Ursinus bounced back with two runs in the sixth inning on a throwing error to increase their lead to 10-5. However, Haverford netted eight runs in the bottom of the sixth, seizing a 13-10 advantage. The Fords capitalized on a Bears' defensive error, scoring seven unearned runs including two home runs to take the lead.
In the top of the seventh, Ursinus rallied for two runs to make the score 13-12. Sophomore
Barritt Ross scored on an RBI ground out by Balos, and sophomore
Marco Maiuolo drove in Richter with a single. In the Bears' final opportunity at the plate, Sullivan led off with a walk and reached scoring position by stealing second. However, back-to-back fly outs stranded the tying run at third base, sealing 13-12 defeat.
The Bears will return to action on Friday, April 18th to wrap up the season series with Haverford. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Thomas Field.
