COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Soccer team rolled past Delaware Valley 5-0 in their 2025 home opener on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Patterson Field in non-conference action.
With the win the Bears improved to 2-0 overall in a successful opening weekend while the Aggies fall to 0-2 overall.
Ursinus went to work early an began peppering the Aggies net with three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes. Senior
Adriana Careless nearly gave the Bears the lead in the 16th minute, but her shot went off the left post. After the Aggies had their lone shot on goal of the game in the 22nd minute, Ursinus took the lead when first-year
Fiona Sanders scored her first collegiate goal on a second chance opportunity.
The Bears broke things wide open in the second half as junior
Holly Joseph started the run with a goal in the 52 minute after intercepting an Aggies pass deep in their own end. Careless added to the Bears lead in the 59th minute with her first goal of the season to make it 3-0. First-year
Cora Kim led a rush across the midfield and initially sent the ball to sophomore
Emma Woch who one-touched it to Careless. Three minutes later, junior
Maddie Jolie struck in a shot for a goal after classmate
Gwyn Krystkiewicz dropped in a perfect corner kick to the box. Krystkiewicz followed with a goal of her own to cap the Bears scoring at 5-0 in the 66th minute after getting a feed from first-year
Abby Godown.
Ursinus held a whopping 35-3 shot advantage for the game and a 19-1 advantage in shots on goal. The Bears also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper
Mallory Toomey recorded her first collegiate shutout with one save in 90 minutes. Aggies goalkeeper Nicole Ocejo suffered the loss after making eight saves in 62:27 while Dekota Barthold finished the final 27:24 with six saves. The Bears had five different goal scorers and Kristkiewicz was the only of the five to add an assist to her goal.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, September 6th as they will travel to face nationally-ranked Messiah at 7:30 p.m.
