Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 11 Ursinus Field Hockey team battled Messiah into overtime on Wednesday night in non-conference action and the Falcons came out on top 1-0.
Ursinus got some few chances in the opening five minutes of the first quarter and had a pair of shots saved. Messiah had its first shot of the game in the sixth minute saved from a penalty corner opportunity. Ursinus had the lone shot of the second quarter on a chance that went wide as the defenses began to take over. Senior Gigi Testa had a shot saved just over a minute into the third quarter and was the only shot that went on goal during those 15 minutes. The Bears had four penalty corners in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter and senior Lauren Sieczkowski had a shot from the fourth one of that stretch saved. The Bears had three corners in the final 22 seconds, including one that was untimed. Ursinus put four shots on the Falcons net and had all four saved to force overtime. It was all Messiah in overtime as they tallied three shots with the goal being scored 2:32 into the session following a steal and score.
The Bears held a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus also had a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Adriana Palladinetti made two saves in the full time while Joy Lippert made nine saves for the Falcons.
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, September 20th as they will travel to face No. 20 TCNJ at 1:00 p.m.
