LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore Ursinus Men's Basketball guard
Jamie Murphy was named the Centennial Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday morning.
Murphy sparked a Bears 19-point comeback against Washington College on Saturday, giving Ursinus a 95-87 road victory. He scored a career-high 25 points on 67% shooting (10-for-15), while also contributing eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Ursinus faced a 52-40 halftime deficit, before outscoring the Shoremen 55-35 in the second half to earn the victory.
The Rockville Centre, New York native currently leads the conference averaging 18.5 points per game, while his 7.8 rebounds per contest ranks fourth in the Centennial. Murphy's efficiently from the floor has played a pivotal role in the Bears season so far as he leads the conference, shooting 58.1% from the field.
This is the first time in his collegiate career that Murphy has earned a weekly award from the Conference and becomes the first Men's Basketball athlete since
Trevor Wall in February of last season to earn a player of the week honor.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, January 14th as they host Haverford College at 6 p.m. for their Centennial home opener.
