COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus men's swimming team earned five individual wins, pacing their way to a 116-85 victory on Saturday afternoon against Misericordia.
The win improves the Bears to 4-5 on the season, while Misericordia dropped to 6-2 on the year.
The Bears got out to a fast start, as a team of sophomores
Josh Travers,
Evan Wagner, and
Quinn Grosvenor, along with senior
David McCauley, won the 200 Medley Relay in 1:40.28.
First-year
Alexander Nicolai was able to follow up on that momentum, winning the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:26.22. It was one of two individual wins for Nicolai, as he took victory in the 500 freestyle as well, with a time of 4:59.23.
McCauley picked up a win in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.02, defeating the competition in a comfortable 2 seconds. He would also go on to win the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 50.13. The Bears then earned key points in the 50 yard freestyle, as senior
Jack Giuliana (22.68), sophomore
Evan Wagner (23.61), and first-year
Jack Campbell (23.66) placed second, third, and fourth.
Travers (2:09.32) and first-year
Brady May (2:10.18) collected second and third in the 200 yard I.M, picking up seven valuable points for Ursinus. Giuliana and Grosvenor then added on in a big way, earning first and second with times of 53.9 and 54.72, respectively.
Travers got his first individual win in the 100 yard backstroke, coming in at 58.83. Wagner (1:02.06) and junior
Adam Denn (1:07.43) then earned second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke, sealing victory for the Bears.
A team of Campbell, Nicolai, Grosvenor, and Giuliana closed out the meet with a win, taking the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:20.94.
Ursinus will return to action on Saturday, January 24th, hosting Stevens Institute of Technology at home. The meet will begin at 1 P.M.
