Women's Soccer Cruises Past Bryn Mawr, 2-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A pair of first-half goals lifted the Ursinus women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday evening in a Centennial Conference matchup at Patterson Field.

With the victory, Ursinus improves to 7-4-2 on the season and 3-3-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Owls fall to 1-9-2 overall and 0-5-1 in conference action. First-year Alexis Whaley and sophomore Abby Godown led the Bears' offense by each scoring a goal. Junior Kaleigh Evans and sophomore Fiona Sanders each added an assist for Ursinus.

The Bears controlled the momentum early in the contest, totaling a pair of corner kicks, while Whaley and senior Josie Parson each recorded a shot. After a Bryn Mawr corner kick in the 21st minute, Ursinus capitalized on a counterattack opportunity, with Whaley scoring her fifth goal of the season.

On the play, Evans made a tremendous touch around a defender and sent a through ball to Whaley for a one-on-one opportunity. Whaley then created space between herself and the Owls' final defender before sending a right-footed shot into the back of the net to give Ursinus a 1-0 lead.

The Bears' offense continued to pressure the Owls' defense, with Whaley, Evans and Godown each recording a shot before Ursinus scored its second goal with 4:27 remaining in the first half. After the Owls' defense cleared a ball outside the box, Sanders stepped between two Bryn Mawr defenders before lofting a pass to Godown, who sent a one-timer into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

Ursinus carried the momentum into the second half, controlling possession and continuing to create scoring opportunities. The Bears outshot Bryn Mawr 8-3 in the second half en route to a 2-0 victory.

Ursinus held a sizable 16-3 advantage in shots, an 8-2 edge in shots on goal and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks. First-year goalkeeper Lexie Albaeck earned the victory for Ursinus, recording two saves en route to her sixth shutout of the season. Bryn Mawr's Lily Blackman took the loss with six saves.

The Bears will return to action Saturday, hosting Gettysburg College at 5 p.m. at Patterson Field.
