Moore Delivers Overtime Winner for Field Hockey over Haverford

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Kylie Moore was once again the overtime hero for No. 14 Ursinus Field Hockey as they defeated Haverford 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday Night in Centennial Conference action at the Snell Alumane Field.

The first quarter went scoreless with zero stoppages and the Bears got the first penalty corner of the game in the 26th minute. Ursinus cashed in on the first stoppage when senior Marie Brainard sent a rocket into the net for a goal to put the Bears up 1-0 in the second quarter. Ursinus continued to control play in the third quarter and got two more penalty corners that resulted in decent chances but no goals to extend the lead. Haverford got its first shot on goal just a minute into the fourth quarter and their first penalty corner a minute after but were called for a foul on a shot attempt. The Bears earned three penalty corners in a four-minute span and had three shots saved and another from Brainard just go wide. The Fords got a corner with just over three minutes left in regulation and converted with a goal after a scramble to tie the game at the 2:45-mark. Disaster nearly struck for the Bears in the final minute as a long pass from the Fords got a favorable bounce to set up a rush, but senior Monica Herman stopped a shot from a cross into the circle to force overtime.

In overtime it was all Bears has they recorded five shots which included Moore's winner with 5:56 left in the first session. First-year Mady Detwiler got the ball to Brainard at the top of the circle who passed it to Moore for the game-winner.

The Bears held a commanding 17-4 shot advantage and a 14-3 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus also held a sizable 12-2 advantage in penalty corners as well. First-year goalkeeper Elise Martin made one save in the 64:04 while Haverford goalkeeper Steph Ionescu made 11 saves in a valiant effort.
