COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In a back-and-forth contest, the Ursinus women's basketball team was downed 58-55 by Washington College on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
The Bears celebrated six seniors prior to the contest as

Makenna Foder,
Ava Possenti,
Mel Hiotis,
Cassie Denning,
Stephanie Donato, and
Connor Rancher were recognized for their dedication and commitment to the women's basketball program over the past four seasons.
With the loss, Ursinus finishes the 2026 regular season with a 15-10 overall record and a 9-6 mark in Centennial Conference play. The Bears will enter the Centennial Conference playoffs as the No. 3 seed. Meanwhile, the Shorewomen clinched a playoff berth and improved to 13-12 overall and 8-7 in conference action.
Possenti led the Bears' offense with a team-high 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Smith reached double figures with 10 points and five rebounds, while Foder tallied seven assists and eight rebounds. With her four steals, Possenti reset the school record for steals in a single season, recording her 120th of the year.

Erin Glanz connected on a 3-pointer at the 7:26 mark for Ursinus. After a basket by the visitors, Possenti and first-year
Anna Chimento combined for six straight points to give Ursinus a 9-8 lead with 3:41 remaining in the first quarter. Junior
Colleen Blackman connected on a triple at the 3:17 mark, but Washington College scored the final basket of the quarter with two seconds remaining as Ursinus held a 12-10 lead.
Glanz opened the second quarter with her second triple, but a 7-2 Washington College run tied the contest at 17 with 5:24 remaining in the first half. Foder found Smith in the paint for a layup to give Ursinus a 19-17 lead at the 4:21 mark, but a 7-2 run by the Shorewomen gave them a 24-21 halftime advantage.
Ursinus opened the second half on a 7-2 run to recapture a 28-26 advantage with 7:45 to play in the third quarter. The Bears' run was highlighted by baskets from Foder and Smith, while Possenti completed a three-point play to give Ursinus the lead. After both teams traded free throws, baskets by Possenti and junior
Emma Afflerbach gave Ursinus a 34-31 lead. However, Washington College answered with six straight points until a basket by Foder cut the deficit to 37-36 with 2:36 remaining in the quarter. The Shorewomen extended their lead to three, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Blackman gave Ursinus a 42-40 lead entering the fourth.
Chimento gave Ursinus a four-point advantage to open the fourth with a basket in the paint, but four straight points from the Shorewomen tied the contest at 44 with 8:57 to play. An offensive rebound led to a layup from Possenti, while free throws by Smith and Afflerbach gave Ursinus a 49-45 advantage with 6:53 remaining. Washington College responded with a 6-0 run to regain a two-point lead, but a basket by Foder tied the contest at 51 with 2:44 to play. The Shorewomen converted a three-point play to take a 54-51 lead, but a basket by Smith cut the deficit to one with 1:03 remaining. Ursinus trimmed the deficit to 57-55 with five seconds left, but the Shorewomen sealed the 58-55 victory at the free-throw line.
The Bears shot 36.1% (22 of 61) from the field, 20.0% (5 of 25) from 3-point range and 54.5% (6 of 11) from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, the Shorewomen shot 40.4% (21 of 52) from the floor, 25% (2 of 8) from beyond the arc and 58.3% (14 of 24) from the free-throw line. Kaitlyn Boggs led the visitors with a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds.
The Bears return to action Tuesday, Feb. 24, as they host Washington College in the first round of the Centennial Conference playoffs. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
