Men's Basketball Battles Johns Hopkins in Centennial Semifinals

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Ursinus Men's Basketball team saw its season end in the Centennial Conference Semifinals to Johns Hopkins on Friday night.

Senior Mohamed Toure finished his season and career strong by leading the Bears with 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Toure closed the season by scoring at least 21 points in seven of the last eight games for Ursinus. Senior Nick Nocito totaled 14 points, seven assists, and four rebounds while sophomore Jamie Murphy was just short of a double-double at 10 points and nine rebounds.

Junior Luke Nieman started things for the Bears with a three-pointer and the Blue Jays worked themselves out to a 12-7 lead at the 14:37-mark following some back-and-forth action. A three from Toure made it a 14-13 Blue Jays advantage at the 12:26-mark and the Bears used a 5-0 spurt to tie the game at 18 with 9:35 left in the first half. Johns Hopkins ran off seven straight points before the Bears got back within two points at 25-23 at the 6:25-mark. The Blue Jays surged ahead at 35-25 with 2:25 left in the first half and seemed to pull away. However, Ursinus worked their way back into the game and closed the half on a 7-1 run to make it 36-32 at halftime. Johns Hopkins started strong in the second half and stretched their lead back out to double digits at 47-36 at the 15:55-mark. Following that run, the Bears would get no closer than seven points the remainder of the game as the Blue Jays had answers for any potential Ursinus run.

The Bears shot 34.4 percent (21-of-61) from the field and just 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from three-point range. Ursinus also went 23-of-30 (76.7%) from the free throw line. Johns Hopkins shot 45.5 percent (30-of-66) from the field despite going 25 percent (5-of-20) from three-point range. The Blue Jays went 75 percent (18-of-24) from the free throw line and held a 42-39 rebounding advantage, but a 19-7 edge in second chance points.
