COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Women's Tennis team rallied in dramatic fashion to defeat Drew 4-3 on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at the Ace Bailey Tennis Courts.
With the win the Bears improved to 5-3 overall while the Rangers fell to 2-6 overall.
The Bears won two of the three doubles matches to gain the first point of the match. Sophomore
Katie Yu and first-year
Sara Steelesmith bested Kapriana Payami and Danielle Pettoni 6-2 at No. 3 doubles before senior
Bella Vassalluzzo and junior
Caroline Daly suffered a 6-4 setback to Natalia Zamora and Madison Williams at the No. 1 spot. Senior
Kate Rubinkam and junior
Morgan Coupe delivered the crucial point by defeating Riley Roesel and Nicole Kalorin 6-4 at the No. 2 spot.
In singles, first-year
Mariah Mays defeated Kalorin 6-4, 6-3 and Daly was downed 2-6, 0-6 by Roesel at the No.1 spot. Rubinkam was bested 2-6, 3-6 by Williams at No. 4 singles and Yu fell 2-6, 4-6 by Zamora at the No. 2 spot that left the Rangers needing just one more point to win. However, Vassalluzzo took down Payami 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to level the match before Coupe won a thrilling 6-1, 2-6, 10-6 tiebreaker at No. 5 singles over Pettoni to win the match for the Bears.
The Bears return to action tomorrow, March 21st as they will host Bryn Mawr at 11:00 a.m. in their Centennial Conference Opener.
