Women's Tennis Opens Centennial Conference Play at Bryn Mawr

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Ursinus Women's Tennis team began Centennial Conference play on Saturday afternoon and suffered a 6-1 setback to Bryn Mawr.
 
 
 
The Owls won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Senior Bella Vassalluzzo and junior Caroline Daly highlighted the doubles action for the Bears by defeating Claire Emanuel and Kelli Eng 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot. Sophomore Katie Yu and first-year Sara Steelesmith dropped a 6-0 No. 3 doubles contest to Sophie Fenster and Gioanna Zha before senior Kate Rubinkam and junior Morgan Coupe lost 6-1 to Bianca Vesuna and Shay Villegas at No. 2 doubles.
 
 
 
Coupe highlighted the Bears by winning the Bears lone point of the day with a 6-3, 6-2 No. 4 singles win over Giselle Gandakusuma. Daly dropped an 0-6, 2-6 No. 1 singles match to Fenster before Yu lost 1-6, 3-6 to Eng at the No. 2 spot. Vassalluzzo was defeated by Vesuna 3-6, 2-6 at No. 5 singles and Rubkinkam suffered a tough 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6 to Emanuel at No. 3 singles.  Steelesmith was bested 2-6, 4-6 by Braswell at No. 6 singles.
 
 
 
 
The Bears return to action Friday, March 27th as they will host Marymount (Va.) at 3:00 p.m.
