COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus softball team rallied from a 6-0 deficit in game two to defeat McDaniel and highlight their Centennial Conference opening doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Snell Field.
After McDaniel took game one 4-0, the Green Terror once again built a sizable lead by scoring one in the second, four in the third, and one in the fourth to go up 6-0. The Bears rally began in the bottom of the fourth by chopping into the deficit with four runs off four hits to make it a 6-4 game. Ursinus loaded the bases with one out and first-year
Nina Davidson brought in the first run with an RBI groundout to second. Senior
Riley Coneeny followed by dropping a two-out two-run single into right field that made it 6-3. Coneeny followed by taking second on a wild pitch and it proved vital as senior
Keelie Hancock singled her in to cap the first big inning. Ursinus had its first two batters in the bottom of the fifth retired before first-year
Tierney Stuempfle drew a walk and came into score off a double from sophomore
Reagan Robinson to make it 6-5. A fielding error at shortstop kept the inning alive and Davidson made McDaniel pay with a go-ahead two-run double to put Ursinus up 7-6. Davidson advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored off another fielding error that made it 8-6. Davidson ultimately put the game away with a bases-clearing three-run double in the bottom of the sixth that made it 11-6.
Davidson went 2-for-4 with six RBI's and one run scored in game two while Robinson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Coneeny supplied two RBI's and sophomore pitcher
Lily McGrath was pivotal in keeping the Bears in the game with four innings in relief to earn the win while allowing just one earned run on four hits with one strikeout.
The Bears return to action on Tuesday, March 31st as they will host Haverford for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
