Men's Lacrosse Takes Muhlenberg to Overtime

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus Men's Lacrosse team forced overtime against Muhlenberg on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference play at Patterson Field.
 
 
Muhlenberg started fast and scored the first five goals of the game in the first quarter before senior Harry Sweitzer stopped the run with a goal at the 1:57-mark. The Mules built their lead to 9-1 with 6:34 left in the second quarter and the Bears scored three straight goals to make it 9-4. Senior Barrett Denlinger scored the first goal of the run, first-year Landon Rasmus followed, and senior Lars Homan capped the run. Muhlenberg went up 12-4 in the third quarter before a pair of goals from Sweitzer and one from sophomore Daniel Rice made it 12-7 at the 4:29-mark. Muhlenberg seemingly had the game in control after going up 14-7 with 11:42 remaining in regulation, but the Bears valiantly rallied for seven straight goals to force overtime. First-year Reid Weisshaar began the rally and sophomore Daniel Rice followed that made it 14-9 with 10:04 left in regulation. Senior Nick Fareno cut it to 14-10 29 seconds later and Rice netted his third to make it 14-11 with 6:48 left. Junior Daniel Kupiec quickly made it 14-12 just 39 seconds later to force a Mules timeout and junior Nick Pomajevich scored to make it 14-13 with 3:13 left in regulation. Muhlenberg rang a shot off the crossbar on their next possession and Denlinger tied the game with the shot clock under 10 seconds at the 32-second mark. The Bears won the opening faceoff of overtime but two turnovers were the difference in the extra session.
 
 
Muhlenberg held a 41-35 shot advantage and 23-22 shots on goal advantage. Ursinus held a 41-31 advantage in ground balls behind a dominant 23-10 advantage in faceoff wins. Senior Nils Updale won 16 of 21 faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls.
 
 
The Bears take on Mary Washington on Saturday, April 18th at 12:00 p.m.
