LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Ursinus College volleyball team garnered a Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for the ninth consecutive season.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average. The AVCA Team Academic Award is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored.
"It comes as no surprise to see our sport have more than 1,400 teams earn the AVCA Team Academic Award again this season," said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "We are grateful for the dedication
of the coaches and players who make both classroom and on-court success the lifeblood of their programs."
The volleyball team turned in another strong spring semester in the classroom, achieving a 3.41 cumulative GPA.
The Bears had 10 players named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor roll last fall in recent graduates:
Lexi Couch,
Maci Dobbins-Timochenko,
Erin Dychdala,
Mel Eglinton, and
Reena Robinson; plus, rising seniors
Dakota Kates and
Alexa Mazzeo along with rising juniors
Samantha Orlando,
Marissa Ortiz, and
Molly Stevenson. Additionally, Couch, Dychdala, Eglinton, and Robinson earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Honors.
