Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. -  The Ursinus College men's soccer team battled, but ultimately fell short in their first conference game of the season, losing 2-1 to Dickinson College.
 
The loss drops the Bears to 2-3-1 overall on the year, while Dickinson improves to 4-3 on the year.
 
The Bears began the game with a strong start, as senior Matthew McFadden rocketed a ball into the right corner just seven minutes in. It was the first goal of the season for McFadden, after leading the team in goals a year ago. On a free kick opportunity within the Red Devils defensive end, McFadden bended a shot around the Dickinson wall to give Ursinus a 1-0 lead.
 
The Red Devils battled back in the ensuing minutes, tallying multiple shots against the Bears defense. They were finally able to break through in the 44th minute, as sophomore midfielder Charlie Roy scored in the final seconds of the half after a corner kick opportunity. Junior Timi Omoniwa was credited with the assist.
 
The second half began similarly too much of the first half, with the Ursinus defense warding off multiple shot attempts by a strong Dickinson offense. The Red Devils broke free in the 61st minute, though, as junior Nicolas Fonseca scored on an assist from senior defender Jeremy Sallade. The Bears tallied three corner kicks in the final moments, but were unable to find the equalizer, eventually falling 2-1.
 
Dickinson held a 20-5 shot advantage throughout, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Red Devils also led 6-4 in corner kicks. Red Devils junior goalkeeper Gavin Marr earned the win with one save, while Bears goalkeeper Josiah Moore took the loss with six saves.
 
Ursinus will be back in action on Tuesday, returning to Collegeville to take on William Paterson University at home at 7:00 p.m. Dickinson will take on Juniata College at home on Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m.
