Ashley Johnston returns to Ursinus for her thirteenth season as an assistant field hockey coach. Formerly known as Ashley Pultorak, she focuses on coaching the high-powered Bears offense.


Johnston, a 2009 Duke University graduate, was a standout offensive player for the Blue Devils, earning Academic All-ACC Honors three times and helping lead Duke to a 2005 national championship, 2006 Final Four, 2007 Sweet Sixteen, and 2008 Elite Eight.


Prior to her arrival in Collegeville, Johnston served as the assistant coach at her alma mater, Perkiomen Valley High School, in 2010, guiding the team to a PIAA district playoff berth. She has also been heavily involved with the USFHA program, serving as both a head coach and site director in Pennsylvania’s Futures Olympic Development Program from 2006 to 2014, and is a Level II Certified Coach. From 2006 to 2022, she served coaching and leadership roles to High Styx Field Hockey Club, mentoring top Berks County athletes to success at the National Hockey Festival and National Indoor Tournament.  


As a US athlete, Johnston gained international experience through four tours with the Futures Elite Program and excelled in the 2008 Beijing High Performance selection tournament. She currently serves as the coach of the USA Women’s Over-65 Field Hockey Team and was a co-captain of the USA Women’s Over-35 Field Hockey Team in 2023. 


Outside of field hockey, Johnston works full-time as a Senior Risk Analyst at Vanguard Group Inc. and is actively involved on the finance committee for USA Masters Field Hockey.  She and her husband Sean have two rescue dogs, Fitz & Emmie, and ball python, Nagini.
