Steve Rice brings a wealth of coaching experience to his second stint here in Collegeville.
Rice has been a successful high school head coach at both Lower Moreland and Jenkintown High Schools, along with a long career in the DII and DIII college assistant ranks. Coach Rice is no stranger to the Centennial Conference, having been an assistant coach at rival Franklin & Marshall and here at Ursinus in the mid 90’s.
“I am absolutely thrilled to welcome Steve to our basketball family,” Small said. “I’ve known Steve for almost 30 years. He’s a master teacher of our game, a man of tremendous character and a truly special leader and friend. Our program got better the moment Steve agreed to return to the friendly confines of Helfferich Hall.”
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to return to the men’s basketball staff at Ursinus,” notes Rice. “Coach Small has built a highly respected program and I hope to contribute to maintaining the program’s success, on and off the court.”
Rice, a LaSalle University grad, has graduate degrees in both English and Education and is a long time English teacher at Methacton High School. Steve and his wife, Amy, live in Pipersville, PA.
