Box Score 2 The Ursinus College men's tennis team had a very
successful day on Saturday as the Bears went 2-0 in two matches
during a Central Pennsylvania swing.
To start, the Bears defeated Messiah by a 9-0 score, then
traveled to Lebanon Valley were they were victorious by a 6-3
score.
In the Messiah match, the team of freshman Evan Stuchin (Cape
Coral, Fla./Canterbury School) and freshman Evan Lord
(Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) defeated Andrew Wismer and Zach
Brunner 8-3 at number one flight doubles, followed by a 8-1 win at
number two flight doubles by freshman Matt Hope (Wyomissing,
Pa./Wilson) and freshman Dylan Marsh (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold
Spring Harbor) over Dave Wichert and Nate Shartzer.
At number three flight, sophomore Sean Kelley (Hershey,
Pa./Hershey) and freshman Brent Stevenson (Coopersburg,
Pa./Southern Lehigh) defeated Jon Nordstrom and Luke Sisson,
8-1.
In singles play, Stuchin defeated Wismer at number one flight,
6-0, 6-0, followed by a win from Hope at number two flight, 6-0,
6-1, over Brunner.
At number three flight, Lord defeated Wichert, 6-1, 6-2, with
Marsh picking up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Shartzer at number four
flight. At number five flight, sophomore Chris Wyshock
(Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) defeated Nordstrom, 6-2,
6-2, with senior Kevin Dean (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) winning
his match at number six flight over Sisson, 6-1, 5-7, 10-8.
Against Lebanon Valley, the Bears took two of three doubles
matches to start the day. Stutchin and Hope defeated Ethan
Gradsinski and Tom Necklemann, 8-2, with Stevenson and Kelley
winning at number two flight over Ryan Weitzel and Joel Ramos,
8-3.
In singles play, Stutchin moved his fall record to 5-1 with a
6-2, 6-0 win over Gradsinski at number one flight, followed by a
6-1, 6-2 win from Hope at number two flight over Necklemann.
At number five flight, Stevenson defeated Andrew Wilson, 6-1,
6-2, before Wyshock defeated Ramos at number six flight, 6-1,
6-0.
