The Ursinus College men's tennis team went 1-1 on a
two-match swing through Central Pennsylvania on Saturday. The Bears
fell to Dickinson, 9-0, to open the day, then went on to defeat the
Chargers of Lancaster Bible by a score of 9-0.
For the Bears (4-5, 0-2) in the Lancaster Bible match, senior
Bennett MacLaughlin (Gaithersburg, Md./Bullis
School) defeated Brandon Klinger at number one singles by
a 6-0, 6-1 score. At number two flight, junior Kevin Dean
(Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township) defeated Phil Smock, 6-2,
6-1, followed by a victory from senior Jason Zerbe
(Berwick, Pa./Berwick) at number three flight singles 6-1,
6-1, over Peter Coderre.
At number four flight singles, senior Josh Hollaman
(Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) defeated Dan McAllister, 6-0,
6-1, followed by a 6-0, 6-1, victory from sophomore Kyle
Davis (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) over Brendan
Arey at number five flight. Finally, freshman Matt Surman
(Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) defeated Josh Formanek, 6-1,
6-0, at number six flight.
In doubles play, MacLaughlin and freshman Sean Kelley
(Hershey, Pa./Hershey) defeated Klinger and Smock, 8-1, at
number one flight. At number two flight, freshman Chris
Wyshock (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) and junior
Greg Lewis (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers
Academy) defeated McAllister and Caleb Graves, 8-0,
followed by a Zerbe/Hollaman win at number three flight over Arey
and Formanek.
Ursinus will take on Albright on Tuesday
