COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College men's tennis
team was blanked by Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday afternoon
by a 9-0 score.
In doubles play, the Diplomats (5-3, 2-0 Centennial) led off
with a victory at number one flight as Armen Vartan and Cameron
Relic defeated Ursinus (4-6, 0-3 Centennial) senior Bennett
MacLaughlin (Gaithersburg, Md./Bullis School) and freshman
Sean Kelley (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) by an 8-3 score. At number two
flight, Ross Silverberg and Peter Bookman defeated freshman
Chris Wyshock (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock
Township) and junior Kevin Dean (Vernon,
N.J./Vernon Township) by a 8-2 score, with Doug
Silverstein and James Tunner defeating senior Jason Zerbe
(Berwick, Pa./Berwick) and senior Josh Hollaman
(Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) at number three flight, 8-1.
In singles play, Vartan defeated MacLaughlin at number one
flight, 6-3, 6-0, with Silverberg defeating Dean at number two
flight, 6-0, 6-1.
At number three flight, Silverstein defeated Wyshock, 6-1, 6-0,
followed by a 6-3, 6-2 win by Relic over Kelley at number four
flight. Hollaman, playing at number five flight, lost to Eric
Rouff, 6-2, 6-4, followed by Tunner defeating sophomore
Kyle Davis (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) at
number six flight, 6-0, 6-1.
The Bears host nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
