The Ursinus College Men's Tennis team will head back to Collegeville this weekend after a 3-3 spring break trip.  The week in hot and sunny Florida leaves the squad with an overall record of 5-3 heading into the main portion of the spring season.

On Wednesday morning, the Bears faced Cornell College at the Beerman Tennis Facility in Lakeland, Florida.  Playing the singles part of the match first, Ursinus ended up with a 4-2 advantage under a blazing sun.  Caleb Kramer recorded a big comeback win in the first flight, taking a 2-6, 6-3, 10-3 victory.  The team also got wins from Dalton Lynch and Tyler Arsenault, as well as a key 6-1, 6-1 triumph at sixth singles from sophomore Jordan Hodess.

In doubles, Cornell was able to secure wins in the first and second flights, knotting the match at 4-4.  In the third doubles flight, senior Mike Melchiorre and freshman Peter Shields found themselves in a tight match when Melchiorre needed a medical timeout with a 6-4 lead.  After the timeout, Cornell broke serve to cut the lead to 6-5.  With Melchiorre and Shields seemingly running on empty in the midday sun, they somehow summoned the energy to break serve and assume a 7-5 lead.  From there, Shields served out the match to give the Bears the dramatic 5-4 win.

In their next match, the Bears fell to Monmouth College, 7-2.  The night was highlighted by impressive wins at first and second singles by Tyler Arsenault and Dalton Lynch.

The final match of the week came against a powerful Wooster College team from the North Coast Athletic Conference.  The Bears battled, but fell by a 7-2 score.  Ursinus got a strong effort at first doubles from Kramer and Arsenault, who grabbed an 8-4 win.  At second singles, Arsenault capped a stellar week with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win. Arsenault finished the week with a perfect 6-0 record.
