Men's Tennis Dethrones King's

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team extended its remarkable start to the spring season Wednesday, blanking King's College for its third consecutive Sunshine State shutout.

Ursinus (3-0) won eight of nine matches in straight sets to secure a third consecutive 9-0 victory for the first time since 2011.

Sophomore Max Oberholtzer and freshman Paul Vecchio continued to dominate at first doubles, coasting to an 8-1 victory. Seniors Tyler Arsenault and Dalton Lynch retained their unblemished mark with an 8-2 triumph at the second flight, and junior Henry Burke made his season debut alongside sophomore Peter Shields in an 8-1 rout at third doubles.

Arsenault (6-0, 6-1), Lynch (6-0, 6-0), and junior Chanton Phan (6-1, 6-0) combined to lose a mere two games between second and fourth singles for the Bears, who emerged unscathed from more competitive matches on the other three courts.

Oberholtzer was a 6-1, 7-5 winner at number one singles, while junior Jordan Hodess needed to win a first-set tiebreaker by a 7-5 margin before rolling, 6-0, in the second set.

Freshman Jake Lachowicz's collegiate debut was one to remember, as the rookie outlasted Terry Briggs 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 at sixth singles for his first career win.

The Bears close their spring trip Thursday with matches against Lake Forest (9:00 a.m.) and Roger Williams (4:00 p.m.).
