Men's Tennis Swept by TCNJ

EWING, N.J. – The Ursinus College men's tennis competed well against a strong TCNJ squad, but the host Lions closed out a 9-0 sweep in non-conference action Tuesday.

TCNJ (8-5), which came in ranked 12th in the Northeast Region and was ranked as high as No. 37 in the nation earlier this spring, took control with a sweep of doubles play. Pierce Cooper and Mitchel Sanders got things started with an 8-2 victory at first doubles, with Mike Stanley and Jason Prezant (No. 2) and Matt Puig and Tim Gavornik (No. 3) posting matching 8-4 decisions.

Despite a clean sweep of singles play by the Lions – all in straight sets – the Bears (10-6) were competitive on all six courts, each winning at least six games. Sophomore Max Oberholtzer fell to Cooper by a 6-3, 6-3 count at number one, and senior Tyler Arsenault played Sanders to a 7-5, 6-2 final at number two. Senior Dalton Lynch (third) dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Chris D'Agostino, and junior Chanton Phan (fourth) suffered a 6-4, 6-4 setback to Omar Bokhari. Freshman Paul Vecchio (fifth) was defeated 6-2, 6-4 by Gavornik, and Puig took down sophomore Peter Shields by a 6-3, 6-3 count at sixth singles.

The men's tennis team will honor captains Arsenault and Lynch before taking on McDaniel in the Bears' Senior Day match on Saturday, April 23.
