Men's Tennis Swept at Washington College

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Ursinus College men's tennis team took Washington College the distance on the top two singles courts, but neither marathon match went the Bears' way in a 9-0 season-ending sweep.

Sophomore Mason Groff and junior Connor DeFaber-Schumacher each came within a point or two of handing their Shoremen foes a defeat, but narrowly missed completing the job. Groff lost a third-set tiebreaker to Jake Sandler, who came away with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7) thriller at No. 1, while DeFaber-Schumacher suffered an 11-9 defeat in a third-set super tiebreaker with Kyle Hickey.

Washington College (6-8, 4-5) won relatively comfortably on the other seven courts to finish its campaign with a win.

Senior Jake Lachowicz, who pushed his opponent to a 6-4, 7-5 result at No. 5 singles, posted the top singles record on the team at 11-8 in his final season. Sophomore Matt Fontanese was the other Bear to register a winning singles record, checking in at 10-9.

Fontanese and Groff were excellent at No. 1 doubles, going 11-5 together and 12-7 overall.
