PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Ursinus College gymnastics team put up a massive score on the beam and finished with its best score in three seasons with a 187.2 on Friday's tri-meet at Temple with Bridgeport. The Bears finished third, but their 187.2 score is the best they've put up this season and their best since putting up a 188.4 at the NGCA Championships at the end of 2018.
Headlining the day for the Bears was Skylar Haas who put up an impressive 9.85 score on the beam and then Abigail Schwerdt who set career-best scores on the beam and bars.
Returning to Temple on Friday were head coach Kim Valenti and assistant India Anderson. Valenti was an assistant with the Owls and Anderson was a gymnast at Temple where she was named ECAC Specialist of the year in 2019.
The Bears started the evening on beam. Leading the way was Haas with an impressive 9.850 score. Her 9.850 was just off of the program record of a 9.9 and eclipsed her previous career-best of 9.750 that she set as a freshman. The senior's score was also good enough for third-best in the meet. Abigail Scwherdt scored a 9.55 which was a career best as well as Ursinus finished the beam with a cumulative total of 46.55.
From the beam, the Bears moved to the floor where they finished with a 45.925. As has been the case all season, Kaylin Knapsack led the way on the floor. She scored a 9.675 while Hailey DiCicco (9.400) and Autumn Snape (9.150) earned season highs.
On the vault, all five Bears scored above a nine. Heading the charge were Emma Gable and Alex Panetta who each scored a 9.500. Gable's 9.500 was good for her season-best. Making her debut on vault on Friday was Kasey Ricci who scored a 9.375.
Ursinus wrapped up the evening on bars where they scored a 47.500 to finish with their season-best 187.200. On the bars, it was Schwerdt who scored a team-best 9.625. Her 9.625 was also a career-best. DiCicco (9.475), Haas (9.475), and Gable (9.275) each had solid scores as well.
