Gymnastics Sizzles at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Ursinus College gymnastics team had everything working on Sunday, blowing away its previous season bests on three of four exercises to place second in a tri-meet with host Springfield and Ithaca.

The Bears established new season standards on the balance beam (47.350), vault (47.250), and floor (47.150) on the way to a cumulative tally of 188.950, nearly two points clear of its high-water mark coming into the meet. Ursinus also scored 47.250 on the bars, eclipsing the 47-point mark in all four events to accentuate a dazzling display.

Springfield won the meet with a 189.925, and Ithaca scored a 186.325.

Ursinus got started on vault, where Emma Gable matched her season high with a 9.500 to lead a remarkably balanced effort with a third-place finish. Alex Panetta was fourth with a 9.475, Shruthi Anand took sixth with a career-best 9.450, and Hailey DiCicco secured a season-high 9.425. Taylor Cusick (9.400) and Breanna Couts (9.375) were close behind.

The Bears' floor score was a huge season high, more than a full point higher than their previous top showing. Kaylin Knapsack continued to lead the way with a 9.650, while DiCicco's 9.425 was another season standard.

Gable marked a 9.400 to match her season high and the second-best score of her career, and Cusick grabbed a new career high with a 9.375. Skylar Haas finished with a 9.300.

Haas, the reigning NCGA East Region specialist of the week following a 9.850 on the beam last weekend at Temple, delivered another sensational routine and claimed first place with a 9.750. Alyssa DeLorme, meanwhile, shattered her previous record with a 9.625 to match Knapsack 9.625. Autumn Snape produced a strong 9.400.

DiCicco recorded a career-high 9.575 to finish runner-up on the bars, where Panetta earned a 9.550 to placed third and continue her streak of hitting that number in every competition this season. DeLorme's 9.475 was a massive PR, and Gable locked up one of her own with a 9.425.

The Bears host a Valentine's Intrasquad meet next Friday, February 14.
