Bears Women's Soccer Battles Scarlet Raptors to Stalemate

Box Score

Camden, NJ- Ursinus College Women's Soccer (2-10-1) went on the road and played to a 0-0 draw against the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors (5-7-1) on Wednesday night at Rutgers-Camden Community Park.

Early on, the Scarlet Raptors were able to tally 2 shots, one of which was on goal and saved by Ursinus keeper Mandy Carideo. The first half then turned into a battle for offensive possessions that mostly took place in neutral territory on the pitch.

As both teams grappled for chances on the attack, Morgan Raley managed to get a shot off in the 18th minute that was saved by Rutgers keeper Kayla McKeever. In the 39th minute, Liv Morrow had another opportunity for the Bears, but once again McKeever was able to stifle the Ursinus offense. Just seconds later, Zoe Moosbrugger missed high with a header on an Izzy Allocco corner kick.

The first stanza wrapped up with the score still 0-0. Ursinus led the Scarlet Raptors 3-2 in shots and 2-1 in shots on goal at the break.

The Bears looked to be the offensive aggressors as the second stanza began, firing multiple shots in the opening minutes. However, they were unable to convert on the early chances. Anticipation continued to build as the score remained 0-0 while regulation time ticked off the clock.

Liv Morrow put pressure on the Scarlet Raptors, sending a pair of shots on goal in the 71st and 74th minutes, but Kayla McKeever continued to save everything coming her way. Mandy Carideo also kept up her shut-out performance, and the match headed to extra time with the score still tied 0-0.

In the first overtime period, the only offense by either team came from Rutgers-Camden when an Amy Maurer shot from long range missed high. Ursinus was unable to tally any shots in the first overtime period, and a second OT was necessary to see if anyone would break the ice.

In the second overtime, Mandy Carideo saved her team's chances in the match when she stopped a fantastic shot from Josie Jackson-Conner. Carideo's hand darted up at the last possible second to save the well-placed shot that Jackson-Conner put on goal from close range. The contest ended in a 0-0 draw, but the Freshman keeper notched her third career shutout.

The Bears will see action again on Saturday at 3pm against conference foe Franklin & Marshall.
