Men's Tennis Sweeps Past Spartans

Box Score

YORK, Pa. - The Ursinus College men's tennis team made the most of its lone fall dual match, cruising to a 9-0 victory at York (Pa.) on Saturday.

The Bears did not allow more than three games in any set to the Spartans in extending a long run of success in non-conference lid-lifters; Ursinus has not lost its first match against a non-Centennial foe since 2010.

Lars Jespersen and Will Oberholtzer picked up an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 doubles. Rob Ritchie and Darby Rogers joined Ethan Yu and Noah Mandel in registering 8-3 victories at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. The match marked the collegiate debut for Yu, who missed the spring season due to injury.

Jespersen, coming off an All-Centennial Conference honorable mention nod in singles as a rookie, set the tone with a 6-1, 6-1 rout at No. 1 singles.

Oberholtzer was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 2, and Ritchie matched that score line at No. 3.

Rogers notched a 6-3, 6-2 decision on the fourth court, and Mandel produced a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at fifth singles.

Yu dominated on the way to a 6-0, 6-0 win in his singles debut.

The Bears return from hibernation on February 26, when they open conference play at Swarthmore.
