CHESTERTOWN, MD. – Junior goalkeeper
Kaela Frenchman collected a career-high 12 saves while the Ursinus College women's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw against Washington College on Saturday evening.
Frenchman and the defense were spectacular throughout the evening blanking the Shorewomen for their 5
th shutout on the season. Washington College held a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal while holding a slight 4-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.
With the draw, Ursinus moves to 4-3-2 on the season and 1-2-1 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Shorewomen sit at 4-1-4 overall and 1-0-3 in conference play.
Washington College moved the ball efficiently over the first 10 minutes, firing four shots with Frenchman earning three saves. In the 20
th minute, Washington College's Lauren Maynor fired a sizzling shot from about thirty yards out. Frenchman made a leaping save, tipping the ball as it deflected out of danger. Ursinus answered with a chance of their own moments later, as first-year
Alicia Page sent a missile from inside the box but was saved by Hailey Sharpe. Page's opportunity came after a cross into the box was deflected and left her with space to deliver a strong left-footed shot directly at the Shorewomen's netminder.
Washington College kept the offensive pressure over the next ten minutes, landing three opportunities to break the scoreless tie but each time the Bears defense and Frenchman denied each opportunity. Junior
Izzy Allocco earned the last shot of the first half and missed high of the net to keep the scoreless tie heading into halftime.
The Shorewomen carried over their momentum into the second half landing the first two shots, but each missed wide of the net. In the 67
th minute, a cross was sent into the box finding first-year
Kalli Roskos with space from the defense. Roskos' mistouched her shot as Shorewomen's goalie Sharpe earned her second save of the night. Washington College earned the last opportunity of the evening in the 78
th minute. Lauren Maynor sent a curling left-footed shot towards the net, but Frenchman made a diving save to end the threat.
Ursinus will return to action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania for a non-conference matchup with Moravian University at 5pm.
