BETHLEHEM, PA. – First-year Adrianna Careless totaled a goal and an assist for the Bears in a 2-2 draw against Moravian University on Wednesday evening.
With the draw, Ursinus moves to 4-3-3 on the season, meanwhile the Greyhounds of the Landmark conference sit at 5-3-3 overall.
The Bears earned the first opportunity of the night in the 10
th minute as Careless ripped a shot high from near midfield. Moravian answered in the 19
th minute earning their second corner kick of the match. Moravian's Hailey Scaff sent a high looping cross into the box finding Bears' goalie
Maddie Nau. The junior goalkeeper was credited with the save but fell in the process over a defender leaving the net open, allowing Elliot Rupp to tap the ball into the net giving the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
Ursinus started to ramp up the offensive pressure firing back-to-back shots on net in the 25
th minute. Sophomore
Grace Senese earned both opportunities with the first being saved by the Greyhounds goalie, while the second missed just wide. In the 33
rd minute, senior
Morgan Raley fired a shot on net but directly at Payce Korpics in net for Moravian.
Just two minutes later, the Bears would answer on a counterattack after a corner kick opportunity for the Greyhounds. Moravian's Olivia Fiocchil sent a low cross into the box finding the head of Danielle Bishop. Bishop's header towards the far post was denied as Nau made a diving save. On the counterattack, a pass to the midfield found Careless who sent a through ball past the Greyhounds defense finding first-year
Kalli Roskos. With plenty of space, Roskos dribbled into the box and fired a low shot past the Greyhounds goalkeeper to tie the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
At the break, Ursinus held a sizable 8-3 advantage in shots while the Greyhounds held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kick opportunities. Moravian bounced back in the second half retaking the lead in the 49
th minute as Emma Lenthe scored her second goal of the season. The Bears once again responded, tying the game at two a piece in the 55
th minute as Raley found Careless for her second goal of the season. First-year
Sophia Lutz intercepted a pass in the midfield and crossed fields finding teammate
Izzy Dalesandro. The senior defender sent a pass to Raley who found Careless at the far edge of the box. Careless sent an arching shot over the Greyhounds defense and into the back of the net.
In the 59
th minute, after a nice through ball from the Bears,
Alex Chalmers fired a shot on net, but Greyhounds' goalkeeper Paige Harrison earned the save. The Bears' best chance of the second half came in the 70
th minute as Raley found junior
Liv Morrow behind the back line. Morrow's one touch shot was saved by Harrison to keep the game tied. In the final minute of the second half the Bears were awarded back-to-back corner kick opportunities, but each were denied by the Greyhounds defense.
Ursinus closed out the contest with a 15-5 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge on corner kick opportunities. Junior
Maddie Nau earned three saves in her first start of the season, meanwhile Kropics and Harrison split time in net for Moravian combining for seven saves.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday as they host Haverford for a Centennial Conference matchup from Patterson Field at 3pm.
