Moore's Hat Trick Powers Field Hockey Past Bryn Mawr, 4-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior Jordan Moore netted a hat trick as the Ursinus Field Hockey team used a complete performance to take down Bryn Mawr 4-1 on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action at Snell Alumnae Field.

With the win, the Bears improved to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in Centennial Conference play. Meanwhile, the Owls saw their seven-game winning streak end while falling to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Bryn Mawr entered the week receiving votes in the NFHCA Division III poll.

Ursinus came firing right out of the gates as they put three shots on goal in the first five minutes while drawing two corners. Moore scored her first of the night with five minutes left in the first quarter with a blast from the top of the circle to put the Bears up 1-0. After receiving a long pass up the left side from senior Lauren Weaver, Moore worked just inside the edge of the circle and struck her shot off the foot of Owls goalkeeper Maggie Titus. Things evened out in the second quarter following the Bears dominant first as each team had a chance in the first two minutes. Bryn Mawr made a late push in the second quarter but Bears senior goalkeeper Jordan Ulsh fended off two shots while staving off three penalty corner opportunities.

Senior Addie Plummer had a shot kicked away in the opening two minutes of the third quarter which led to a battle at the midfield for the first portion of the third quarter. Moore nearly scored again in the 39th minute as her high shot was deflected off the glove of Titus. The Bears drew a corner with 20 seconds left in the third quarter and Moore capitalized with a big strike that was stopped perfectly by senior Sarah Symes off the initial push from classmate Laura Rothschild. Symes then netted her first goal of the season exactly one minute into the fourth quarter to make it 3-0 after driving the ball into the box and banking her shot off the right post. Moore then completed her hat trick in the 49th minute after redirecting a cross from sophomore Mary Lauren Franz right in front of the cage. Bryn Mawr broke up the shutout in the 54th minute but were only able to get one more shot after the goal to lock up the Bears win.

The Bears held a 17-12 edge in shots and a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Owls held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corner after holding a sizable 8-1 edge from the start of the second quarter to the end of the game. Ulsh made five saves to earn the win in the full 60 minutes. Titus made eight saves before being pulled in the 55th minute. This was the second time in her career that Moore has scored three goals in one game.

The Bears return to action on Saturday, October 15th as they will travel to face Dickinson at 12 p.m. in Centennial action.
