Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Edged in Overtime by Dickinson, 2-1

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Ursinus field hockey team was defeated 2-1 in overtime by Dickinson on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.
 
Bears senior goalkeeper Jordan Ulsh was put to the test early by turning away three more shots in the opening three minutes as the Red Devils continued to press. The Bears began gaining some ground as the first quarter went on as they put two decent chances on the Dickinson net that were saved. The Bears broke through just 1:39 in the second quarter as junior Ellie Bruggeman scored her first goal of the season after collecting a blocked shot, putting Ursinus up 1-0. However, Dickinson struck back and tied up the game at one with 1:10 left in the first half.
 
Dickinson got an early break in the opening minute as they were awarded a penalty stroke but Ulsh came up huge by denying the shot attempt to keep the game scoreless. Each team traded chances throughout the second half before the game eventually went to overtime. In the extra overtime session, the Bears had a pair of shot attempts with one being saved 3:41 into the new quarter. The Red Devils cashed in on a second chance opportunity with 4:10 left in the first overtime to win the game.
 
 
The Bears held a 20-13 overall shot advantage for the game but just a 10-9 edge in shots on goal. Ursinus also gained a 6-3 edge in penalty corners as well. Ulsh made seven saves in the full 65 minutes while Red Devils goalkeeper Saige Stevens totaled nine saves.
 
 
Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, September 19th as they will host Swarthmore for Youth Night at 7 p.m.
